Some things simply don’t fit inside a conventional picture frame.
From sculptures and carvings to sporting equipment, models, historical artefacts and unusual keepsakes, three-dimensional objects often require a little more imagination when it comes to displaying and protecting them.
At Van Uffelen, we create custom framing and display solutions designed around the object itself. Whether that means a specially constructed deep frame, a purpose-built enclosure or an entirely different approach, our aim is to find a practical and attractive way to showcase what makes your item special.

Framing Beyond the Conventional
Unlike traditional artwork, three-dimensional objects bring their own challenges. Their shape, size, weight and sometimes delicate construction all influence how they can be safely supported and displayed.
Some pieces are best presented within an extra-deep frame, while others may require specially designed internal supports, reinforced construction or an entirely different form of enclosure.
We consider not only how the object will look, but also how it can be securely mounted, protected and appreciated from the intended viewing angles.
Different Objects, Different Solutions
There is no single approach that works for every object. Sporting equipment, sculptures, memorabilia, models, collectibles and historical pieces can all call for very different framing techniques.
Depending on the item, we may recommend a traditional timber frame adapted to accommodate additional depth, a custom-built dimensional enclosure or a more specialised display arrangement.
For objects better suited to a clear, freestanding enclosure, we also offer Acrylic & Perspex Display Boxes, providing another way to protect and showcase treasured items.
Designed Around Your Item
Often, the most interesting projects are those that don’t have an obvious framing solution.
Our experience in custom picture framing, specialist mounting and working with unusual materials allows us to explore options that go beyond standard framing methods.
Every project begins with understanding the object, how you would like it presented and where it will be displayed.
Let’s Discuss Your Object
Have something unusual, oversized or particularly challenging that you would like to display?
Bring it into our Palmerston North workshop, or contact us with photographs and approximate dimensions if you’re further afield.
We’ll be happy to discuss what might be possible.
