Thoughtful Framing for Original Artworks, Collectable Pieces & Long-Term Preservation
Fine art framing sits at the intersection of presentation, preservation, craftsmanship and perception.
The way an artwork is framed can influence not only how the piece is viewed within a space, but also how it is protected, interpreted, collected and valued over time.
At Van Uffelen Gallery & Picture Framing, we understand that fine art framing is rarely a one-size-fits-all process. Every artwork arrives with its own history, intent, condition, framing requirements and level of significance — whether contemporary or historic, decorative or highly collectable.

Framing Designed Around the Artwork
Good fine art framing should support the artwork rather than compete with it.
Careful consideration is given to balance, proportion, spacing, colour, texture, glazing and the relationship between the artwork and its surrounding environment. Sometimes the framing brief calls for a quiet, restrained presentation. Other times the artwork may benefit from a more architectural or contemporary approach.
Every decision should feel intentional.
We regularly work with:
Original Artworks • Oil Paintings • Watercolours • Acrylic Paintings • Pastels & Charcoal Works • Limited Edition Prints • Etchings & Lithographs • Fine Art Photography • Historic Artworks • Collectable Artworks • Contemporary Gallery Works • Large-Scale Artworks • Textile & Mixed Media Works
Preservation, Conservation & Long-Term Protection
Fine artworks are often vulnerable to environmental change, UV exposure, acidity, moisture, pollutants and unsuitable framing materials.
To help protect artworks for the long term, we offer a range of conservation-focused framing solutions using carefully selected archival materials and current best-practice framing techniques.
This may include:
Archival Matboards • Conservation Mounting Materials • UV-Filtering Glass & Acrylic • Artwork Spacing Systems • Reversible Mounting Techniques • Museum-Grade Framing Methods
Our aim is always to help preserve both the physical integrity and visual presentation of the artwork wherever possible.
Retaining Existing Frames & Historic Presentation
Many clients bring artworks to us that are already framed.
In some cases, the original frame itself forms an important part of the artwork’s history, provenance, period character or visual identity. Rather than replacing these elements unnecessarily, we frequently work with customers to retain selected original framing materials while upgrading the preservation components surrounding the artwork.
This may involve retaining original frame mouldings, upgrading backing materials, improving artwork support systems, replacing glazing, or updating hanging hardware while preserving the overall character of the piece.
Collectability, Provenance & Presentation
Fine art framing often extends beyond decoration alone.
Factors such as artist popularity, collectability, provenance, exhibition history, asset value and presentation standards can all influence framing decisions.
We work closely with artists, collectors, galleries, institutions and private clients to create framing solutions that feel appropriate to both the artwork and its intended context.
Large & Oversized Fine Art Framing
Many fine artworks require specialised handling and framing due to their scale, fragility or medium.
Our workshop is equipped to handle oversized and large-format artworks, including works requiring larger glazing systems, custom support structures, conservation-focused mounting methods and careful transportation planning.
